Understanding the potential livestock farming has for small holder farmers, Shri. Sukanta Behera, a resident of Cuttack adopted the vocation. With support from BAIF through the Odisha Govt. funded ILD Programme, there has been efficient utilization of inputs & reduced dependence on feed supply from outside.
Growing consumption of milk products with increasing demand for supply has given Sukanta an opportunity to forage into dairy products.
Comparing milk production from the present livestock farming system to the earlier one, significant increase leading to economic reliability is observed. Farming practises with improved fodder (hybrid napier) can help in improved viability & also reduce GHG emissions helping mitigate climate change.
With improved practices, there has been long-term sustainability in terms of production & productivity. For Sukanta, farming has undergone an impressive surge at various levels with positive socio-economic implications.
